Context

The actual specification of the standard is available against a fee from the International Standards Organisation (ISO): https://www.iso.org/standard/37338.html.

The standard rests on the Guidelines of the Text Encoding Initative (TEI), primarily, but not exclusively on chapter 8 of the guidelines: "Transcriptions of Speech" https://tei-c.org/release/doc/tei-p5-doc/en/html/TS.html.

The concept for the standard was first described in a paper of jTEI, the Journal of the Text Encoding Initative: https://doi.org/10.4000/jtei.142.

Primer for ISO/TEI-Spoken

The primer for the standard was originally written for the ZuMult project.
It explains, in greater depth and detail than the official specification, how to use the standard in practice. A completed and revised version of the primer will be published on Zenodo by the end of the Transcription+ project.

XML schemas

Transcripts following the standard should validate against the generic TEI schema (tei_all.xsd) available from https://www.tei-c.org/release/xml/tei/custom/schema/. For stricter validation of specific subsets of standard conformant documents, further XML schemas are developed as part of the code.
